The ASCII Art Generator turns an image into text art. You upload a picture, and the tool reads each part of it, measures how light or dark it is, and replaces it with a character — dense characters for dark areas, sparse ones for light. The result is a recognizable version of your image built entirely from letters, numbers, and symbols.
You control two things: the resolution (how many characters wide the output is — higher means more detail) and the character set (which characters represent the shades, from dark to light). When you like the result, copy it as text or download it as a .txt file.
Everything runs in your browser on a hidden canvas — your image is never uploaded to a server, so it stays private and the conversion is instant.

High-contrast images with a clear subject work best — a face, a logo, or a silhouette converts far more cleanly than a busy, low-contrast photo. If the output looks muddy, try a simpler image or a higher resolution.
The character set matters too. A set that runs smoothly from dense to sparse (like @#S%?*+;:,. then a space) gives smooth shading. Remember that ASCII art is monospaced — to keep it looking right when you paste it, use a monospace font wherever it lands.
