Why Convert Images to PDF?

PDF (Portable Document Format) is the universal standard for sharing documents that need to look identical on any device, operating system, or printer. When you share a JPEG or PNG image directly, the recipient's software may display it at a different size, colour profile, or aspect ratio. A PDF preserves the image exactly as intended and can be set to print at specific dimensions.

Converting images to PDF is essential for several common workflows: document scanning (multiple scanned pages combined into a single searchable PDF), portfolio submission (multiple design images as a single printable document), passport photo submission (official documents often require PDF format), invoice and receipt archiving (photo receipts converted to PDF for accounting), and email attachments (a single PDF is easier to attach and opens more reliably than multiple image files).

This converter uses jsPDF - a widely used, open-source JavaScript library that generates PDFs entirely within the browser. Your images are never uploaded to any server. The PDF is assembled from your image data and downloaded directly to your device. This makes the tool safe for confidential documents like medical images, legal contracts, and personal identification.

Page Size and Layout Options

A4 (210 × 297 mm) - The international standard paper size used in Europe, Asia, Australia, and most of the world. Standard for office documents, forms, contracts, and most printed materials.

A3 (297 × 420 mm) - Twice the size of A4. Used for architectural drawings, large design presentations, and posters.

US Letter (8.5 × 11 inches / 215.9 × 279.4 mm) - The standard paper size in the United States and Canada. Use this if your PDF will be printed on standard North American office paper.

US Legal (8.5 × 14 inches / 215.9 × 355.6 mm) - Common in the US for legal documents, contracts, and official forms that require more vertical space.

Fit to Image - Creates a PDF page that exactly matches each image's pixel dimensions. The resulting PDF has non-standard page dimensions but perfectly preserves the image's original proportions. Best for digital artwork, photographs to be printed at specific sizes, and any image where standard paper sizes would introduce distortion.

Image Fit Modes Explained

Contain (recommended) - Scales the image to fit within the usable page area (page minus margins) while maintaining its original aspect ratio. If the image is wider than it is tall, it fills the width and centres vertically. If it is taller, it fills the height and centres horizontally. There may be white space on two sides. This is the safest option - nothing is cropped and the full image is always visible.

Fill - Scales and crops the image to completely fill the usable page area. The full page is covered, but parts of the image may be clipped on two sides. Use this when you want a full-bleed appearance and the subject of the image is centred.

Actual Size - Places the image at its natural pixel dimensions converted to millimetres (at 96 DPI). Small images will appear small; large images may extend beyond the page. Use this when you need to preserve a specific print size.

Frequently Asked Questions

What image formats work?
JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF (first frame), and BMP. All common formats are supported.
Can I combine many images into one PDF?
Yes - upload any number of images. Each becomes a page in the order shown in the thumbnail grid. Use the reorder arrows to change the sequence.
What is Fit to Image page size?
The PDF page is sized exactly to match each image's natural pixel dimensions. Useful for photographs and artwork where you want the PDF to preserve the exact image proportions without any standard paper size padding.
Is my data private?
Yes. The jsPDF library runs entirely in your browser. Images are never uploaded to ToolsVenue or any other server. The PDF is generated locally and downloaded directly to your device.
What is the difference between Contain and Fill?
Contain scales the image to fit within the page while preserving aspect ratio - nothing is cropped. Fill stretches the image to cover the full page - parts of the image at the edges may be cropped. For most use cases, Contain is the safer choice.
